Canon PowerShot S95 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.8x Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 3.0-Inch LCD.We primarily shoot over a Nikon D700, but I wanted something smaller sized for casual shots. I also wanted to experiment using video.
The most appealing thing concerning this camera, to me at least, is uncooked processing so i can track exposure, white stability, color calibration, and noise-reduction me. I alternatively not fuss about with scene modes and also such. Also, the sensor is quite a bit bigger as compared to most regular point along with shoots. It boasts decent movie, which is just about the main factors i selected this up. f/2 will be nice at the same time.
The s95 works comparable to a DSLR, with Audio-video, Tv, and Mirielle modes and also spinning calls for adjusting items like aperture, iso, shutter pace, and perhaps manual concentration. I truly liked in which. As a great aside, beware that will AUTO mode is only in JPG, so even if your settings say RAW it is going to shoot jpg. I’ve just learned in order to avoid Auto.
For video clip, the s95 sets 720p or 24fps. Focus can not be changed after you start documenting. But, the exposure and whitened balance can shift good scene. You can fix each white stability and publicity before saving however. I love to apply a number of software stabilization throughout post, which results in a slightly cropped video clip. For that reason, the fighting s100 (which shoots at 1080p) could be better. Also, I consider the s100 can autofocus throughout video. Either way, focusing is not a big matter sinse the actual depth regarding field upon these stage and shoots are so deep anyways. The S100 even offers a 15% wider field associated with view from 24mm versus 28mm around the s95.
The S100 is going now, so you may consider obtaining that way too. I received an s95 though because the image top quality is about the same with your s100. Early reviews on dpreview.com even indicate the s95 has better image quality than the s100. The fact is, if you are serious about imagery, you should just get a micro 4/3rd like the Panasonic GF3, NEX, or just go for a Nikon D7100 or something similar. Currently, the S100 is about 50% pricier than the S95… so you have to ask yourself if that’s worth the slight improvement in image to you. For me, I’m recognizing that I’ve made a decision here to lose IQ for pocketability. And when I really want good IQ, I’ll use a bigger camera. So to me, it wasn’t worth it to pay a 50% premium for minimally better IQ with the s100. Either way, you can’t really go wrong. .
